Silicone breast implants rupture at a rate of approximately 0.5 – 1% per year. It is rare, but occasionally a plastic surgeon will be surprised to find an unsuspected rupture at the time of implant surgery. This was one of the few occasions Dr. York Yates has found an unsuspected silent silicone breast implant rupture during surgery. Dr. Yates is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Utah who has removed over 1,000 implants in his 17-year career.
